A tournament day, start to finish
Most junior volleyball tournaments follow this pattern. Your coach sends the exact report time before each event.
Check in
Arrive about an hour before the first match. Find the check-in table and your team's court number. Many events charge spectator admission.
Warm up
The team warms up together, then gets a short timed warm-up on the court before the first match.
Pool play
Teams play the other teams in a small group, called a pool. Matches are usually best of three sets.
Work a match
Between matches, teams often referee or keep score for another match. It's part of the day, so plan for it.
Bracket play
Pool results set the afternoon bracket. The finish time depends on how far the team goes.
Head home
Before you leave, the coach confirms the next practice or event.

The tournament bag
Check things off as you pack. Your list stays on this device until you reset it.
Volleyball 101
New to the sport? These are the words you'll hear in the stands.
- Rally scoring
- A point is scored on every serve, no matter which team served. Sets go to 25 and must be won by 2. A deciding set usually goes to 15.
- Rotation
- Players move one spot clockwise each time their team wins back the serve, so everyone serves in turn.
- Setter
- Takes the second touch and sets up the attack. Think of the setter as the quarterback.
- Outside hitter
- Attacks from the left side and often passes serves too.
- Middle blocker
- Blocks along the net and hits quick sets through the middle.
- Libero
- The defensive specialist in a different-colored jersey. Can swap in for back-row players freely.
- Pool and bracket
- Morning pools are small round-robin groups. Their results set the afternoon bracket.
- Age groups
- 13U means a team for players 13 and under, based on the age chart for that season. We confirm your athlete's group with you.
The Athlete Triangle
Player, coach and parent. It's how we work together, and each side has its own job.
Player
Shows up, works hard and talks to the coach directly about goals and playing time.
Coach
Teaches, sets the lineup and keeps players and parents informed.
Parent
Cheers from the stands, handles the logistics and brings concerns to the coach away from game time.
Club policies
The 2026-27 family handbook and club policies will be posted here before the first practice. Questions in the meantime? Ask us.
Questions families ask
Does my athlete need experience?
Not for Rec. Rec is for new and developing players in 9U, 11U, 13U and 15U groups. Club Prep (11U, 13U, 15U and 17U) and Club (12U to 18U brackets) are for players ready for more training and competition.
When do club practices start?
The week of November 9, at The Point Sportsplex in Pilot Point. The season runs into April.
How much does club cost?
$3,500 per athlete for 2026-27, all-inclusive. Pay in full up front and take 5% off, which makes it $3,325.
Which program fits my athlete's age?
Rec runs 9U, 11U, 13U and 15U groups. Club Prep runs 11U, 13U, 15U and 17U groups, with 1.5-hour sessions for 11U and 2-hour sessions for the older groups. The 17U Club Prep group is coed. Club works with 12U to 18U brackets, but not every bracket forms a team each season. This season's teams are 13U to 17U. See the full chart
Is there a payment plan for Club Prep?
